Adventures in Jewelry Design
Grades: 4-8
A camp for the student who dreams of creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry! Jewelry design is such a popular and personalized art medium since an intriguing piece of jewelry not only attracts the eye, but tells a story. Artist Alexander Calder will be the inspiration for your masterpieces. Discover how to translate your artistic ideas into finished works that you will love to wear. You will learn jewelry-making techniques using simple tools and different size wires to design bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, and more. Express your creativity and bring home a lovely bracelet, necklace, and other pieces for yourself or a friend. As time permits, you will also explore working on a large group sculpture.

Grades: 3 and up
“Every child is an artist,” said Pablo Picasso. In this joyful camp, students will learn different techniques and work with different mediums to encourage maximum creativity and imagination–to unleash their inner artist and express themselves. Projects include DIY Fidget Spinners to help relax and calm; a recycled pop bottle terrarium, to promote inner tranquility and positive thinking; rainbow burst fluffy slime, for a fantastic and fun sensory experience; and a Light up Mason Jar Aquarium for a therapeutic and soothing night.
Buon Appetito! An Introduction to Italian Cooking
Grades: 4 and up
Discover the wonderful smells and tastes of this beloved style of cooking! Students will learn how to make a basic Italian (gravy!) sauce from scratch with tomatoes, basil, garlic and onion, how to layer a lasagna, use fresh herbs from the garden, serve mouth-watering meatballs, and make Italian Antipasto “Kabobs” that are as gorgeous and colorful as they are delicious. Learn how to whip up a homemade Gelato and an easy tiramisu (made with chocolate milk instead of expresso!). Tastings will take place at the end of each class! Children will decorate their own apron and keep a bellisimo recipe scrapbook to take home at the end of the week. And shhh… there might just be a surprise “guest chef” one day, too—for a pizza-making demonstration!
Canvas Painting
Grades: 5 and up
A delightful chance to unleash the creative artist within! This camp offers the opportunity to work on stretched canvas for all assignments. Students will explore landscape, modern, surrealism and abstract art forms throughout this camp session. All canvases and materials will be provided and all pieces will be sent home on the last day of camp. Students should bring a smock or apron for this camp.
Chocolate Mania
Get your taste buds ready for some sweet and salty sensations as you learn the amazing things you can create with chocolate! This chocolate-making workshop allows you to create and explore this confection as never before. Learn how to dip, mold, and decorate delicious chocolate creations. Design your own candy box to take home, make extraordinary lollipops, experiment with clever molds, wrap your creations beautifully, and much more! By the end of the week you will become a master chocolatier, ready to throw your own Chocolate Fondue Party!
Coding
Grades: 4-8
An invaluable camp for those highly interested in computers and computer programming! Learning coding fundamentals has never been more fun with CodeMonkey and its user-friendly Coding Adventure tools. Your student will learn real programming (coding) by playing a fun and intuitive game while learning how to write code in text format. Students in this programming class for kids will go home with CodeMonkey accounts to continue the fun and create their own challenges to share with other students. If time permits, Campers will also be introduced to Blockly code. Developed by Google, Blockly code will be written and used in conjunction with robotic a manipulative called Cubelets.
Cookie Creations
Grades: 3-8
Learn how to bake 8 different scrumptious cookies from scratch to surprise your friends and parents! While our cookies are baking, we will make a receipe book for you to decorate and keep. Your child will really start to feel more “at home” with baking, learning proper measurements, subsitutions, baking “secrets” and safety in the kitchen. We will also personalize our own aprons to wear while baking. Each day, there will be delicious treats to take home and share!
Crazy Concoctions
Grades: 1-2
This incredible camp has become a HACEF favorite and that’s because Ms. Ricci always has something new and jaw-dropping up her sleeve! These young campers will become mad scientists as they whip up astounding hands-on experiments such as magic sand dough, volcanoes, exploding candy, soda geysers, bubbling rainbows and slime! It’s sticky, icky, awesome, mind-blowing fun (and learning) at its finest!
Creating Cake Pops
Grades: 4-8
Have you ever wanted to know how to make those delicious looking and tasting cake balls and cake pops? Then join us for a week of creating and decorating these whimsical confections! In this “no-bake” camp, we will transform pre-made cakes into cake balls and cake pops of many flavors and colors. You will learn how to roll, decorate & wrap up these special treats. You will also decorate an apron to wear while you are creating and make a recipe book for you to bring home! Of course, samples will be enjoyed and brought home.
Crop, Paper, Scissors: Photo Crafts & Collage
Grades: 4 and up
A new twist on scrapbooking! Children will learn the art of decopauge, paper mache, stencilling, how to transfer images onto a surface, and layering and creating a collage to gorgeous effect. This fun camp will showcase the artistic possibilities of mixing and layering photographs and gorgeous images onto paper, wood, glass, tile, fabric, and other materials to create truly one-of-a-kind objects. Photographs will be mixed with patterned papers, tissue papers, illustrations, musical sheets, quotes, and pages from books. There will also be a daily surprise “Mystery Craft” to encourage imagination and ingenuity. At the end of camp, students will come home with highly-personalized creations, including a breakfast tray, vase, small suitcase, and a “quilted” 12 x 12 mosaic tile, which are sure to become treasured keepsakes.

Engineering
Grades: 6-8
In this fun and exploratory foundation class, engineering instructor Richard Ritter will give students valuable insight into the fascinating world of how things work. From formulating ideas to concept drawing to planning formal design concepts to creating finished products, campers will work in teams to create and problem-solve. Assignments will include flying devices and cable cars using everyday materials such as Popsicle sticks, paper clips, rubber bands, and even balloons. A fascinating camp that truly offers much in the way of both practical and life skills!
Exploring 2D & 3D Art
Grades: 3-5
Both fun and inspiring, 2D & 3D art opens up a world of exciting possibilities! Children will explore a variety of visual arts mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and more. Age appropriate projects are geared to expand students’ artistic horizons by improving knowledge and skills. The session culminates with an art exhibition featuring artworks created during camp for family and friends to enjoy. *Please note that this camp is offered for 2 sessions in July and is repeatable; there will be different projects each week.
Fashion Design
Grades: 5-8
Do you enjoy flipping through the pages of magazines and keeping up with the latest trends? Do you love the artistry of stunning attire? Enter the exciting world of fashion and learn how to create your own contemporary fashion designs! Students will learn to apply clothing to the fashion figure (croquie) and how to render fabrics, textures, styles of details on clothing and become skillful in various techniques using color pencils and markers. The final project will be a unique collection of designs and accessories for a season! You might even create a design perfect for a red-carpet appearance!
Fetch, Pounce, Purr
Grades: 4-8
Calling all dog and cat lovers!!! What better way to pamper your pet than by making them specially-made toys and treats? This hands-on camp will offer fun materials to craft unique toys and treats that will please pets everywhere. Cat nip bag, a cat pompom toy, squeak toys, crinkle toy, a dog pull toy made from recycled denim are just few of the items that may be created. Fun games that you can play with your pet will also be introduced! The Best Part: Once you learn how to create these pooch- and kitty-pleasing toys, you can always make more or give them as gifts to your friends’ pets!
HACEF Sampler

Hair Flair

Love those awesome hair videos on YouTube? Professional Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Ali Gagnon will show you how to make different kinds of braids, create unique hairstyles, and use temporary, wash-out chalk hair colors in this stylish camp! Each camper will receive a small hairstyling kit, complete with a practice mannequin, hair tools, and fun accessories. Ali will offer hands-on training to girls interested in learning hair styling skills–all while building effective communication, teamwork, and self esteem.
Hands on Clay
Grades: 6-8
A fun four days of exploring all aspects of 3D work through clay: handbuilding, an introduction to the Potter’s wheel, and slip casting. Campers will use their imagination and new skills to create both decorative and functional ceramics to create beautiful treasures. Campers will also learn how to load and fire the kiln as well as experiment with various glaze applications. The week will end with an art exhibit for family and friends.
Harry Potter Camp: Bringing Magic to Muggles

Back by huge popular demand! From Privet Drive to 9 3/4 Train Platform to Hogwarts, come explore the magical world of Harry Potter! Get “sorted” into houses Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Play Quidditch and work towards the Hogwarts House Cup! Introduction to Video Production
Grades: 4-8
Constantly searching for the best video apps? Gain useful skills to create impactful small digital video productions! Campers will learn basic aspects of video camera, storing digital video, and shooting video. They will learn video editing techniques through the use of video editing software. They will also have the opportunity to produce several different productions including: autobiographies, commercials, interviews, newscasts, family productions and more. All productions will be saved for take home use.
Jedi Training Academy
Grades: 1-4
This is the camp (and the droids) you’ve been looking for… Welcome to Jedi Master Armstrong’s training academy for Jedi hopefuls. Jedi applicants will construct their own lightsabers and will then choreograph a battle with another Jedi opponent by learning martial arts training moves. Perhaps a surprise visit from Darth Vader will jolt these Jedis into action! Applicants will need to use their skills to rescue Han Solo from the carbonite. Use Jedi mind tricks and meditation to outwit the Dark Side then build your own X-Wing fighter vehicle to join the rebellion and help restore peace to the galaxy! This Star Wars camp will be a mix of fun STEM activities, arts and crafts, and outside fun! May the force be with you!

This creative expression camp for incoming kindergarteners provides your child with a fun, stress-free camp experience with beloved instructor Diane Young. Taking place at Washington Drive Primary School, your children will love this adventurous camp, where he or she will explore different authors, artists, and musical genres. Each day will feature a new theme with developmentally-appropriate learning, hands-on projects and fun activities! Your child will develop literacy and listening skills, learn art techniques and explore musical instruments. For example, “The Beatles” Day will feature music from the Fab 4, artwork in Peter Max style and picture books by John Lennon and Ringo Starr!

This is a unique and soothing opportunity for your child to meet other Harborfields children entering kindergarteners in a relaxed, gentle, and fun setting. There will be loads of hands-on projects, friendship-building activities, joyful music, and playful games to help the children enjoy themselves, their environment, and each other!
Knitting for Kids
Grades: 2-8
One of the best hobbies to learn and discover, knitting opens up a whole world of fun possibilities! Knitting extraordinaire Keri Puglisi, designer & owner of Loops by Keri hand knits and half of the duo behind EmmaLoops Creative Studio in Huntington, will teach campers the ins and outs of this exciting craft. This class will explore hand knitting at each student’s level…. including right AND left- handed knitters. Learn how to put stitches on a needle, how to create and use different stitches, and much more. Students can choose what project to work on, including a pair of fingerless mitts or a scarf for a doll/stuffed friend or themselves. To ensure each child is successful, there will be options for crocheting, finger knitting and pompom making throughout the class week! The benefits of knitting: Increases fine motor skills, improves memory and math skills, works both sides of the brain…. and most importantly, it’s a lot of fun! No prior experience needed, beginners welcome!
Making Summer Memories
Grades: 3-6
Turn off the phones and tune into Summer! This camp is a return to beloved and traditional games and activities to delight a child’s imagination. Campers will participate in sand art and tye-dying, make homemade ice pops, and whip up bubble paint to make wild designs. Create a sign for a lemonade stand… and learn a recipe for the BEST lemonade ever! Kids will learn strategy and communication skills while playing favorite board games like Risk, Stratego, Scrabble, Monopoly, Battleship and Rummikub. The children will play outdoor games like kick ball, hopscotch, Red Light Green Light and engage in a scavenger hunt…with an awesome prize at the end!
Masks, Mummies, and More

Take a trip back in time and explore the Egyptian, Mayan, and Aztec Civilizations. Create a Mayan mask, learn how to write your name in hieroglyphics, build your own pyramid, and much more. Simulate the job of an archaeologist by going on a dig outdoors and recording your results. “Unwrap” the mysteries of mummies and participate in activities to “mummify” yourself. Kids will learn about how these ancient civilizations had a profound effect on today’s world and will love the ingenious inventions they’ll whip up!
No Bake Desserts
Grades: 3-8
When it’s hot out, who wants to turn on the oven? This fun camp offers delicious recipes that are cool and summer-friendly! These beautiful and yummy desserts will be made from scratch using simple and fresh ingredients. We will use a microwave, refrigerator and freezer, and a few other simple kitchen appliances to create guest-worthy masterpieces such as Cookie Dough Lasagna and Beach Parfaits. You will also get to decorate your own apron to wear while you are cooking and create a recipe book to take home!
Old Masters
Grades: 3-7
In this fabulously imaginative camp, the students will create and reinterpret the art of the masters. Creations will be generated through the students’ eyes and personal expression. The styles and techniques of Picasso, Van Gogh, Chagall and others will be examined each week and the student’s own personal likes, creativity and visual expression will then be applied. Students will be encouraged to put their own “twist” on the foundations of these famous artists’ technique and form. This will be an exciting, enriching class where students will explore and create many different possibilities, from the whimsical to the serious and serene!

Painting Al Fresco

Having trouble choosing between an indoor summer activity and an outdoor one? Now you don’t have to! Make art while enjoying the beautiful summer outdoors with our new Painting Al Fresco camp! A fun four days of exploring various sketching and painting techniques. Students will have sketchbook exercises and learn tips and styles for painting gorgeous landscapes, gardens, perhaps even the beach! Follow our professional art instructor to a new creative place each day (both on campus and off) to learn and make friends who like art as much as you do. The week will end with an art exhibit for family and friends.
Painting FUN-damentals
Grades: 1-4
Put the FUN into the fundamentals of art! In this camp, we will explore the 7 basic principles of art in rich, creative, and imaginative ways. Primary colors will “pop” off the page with hero/heroine inspired pop-art, a dot will “take a walk” and blend into different forms of lines to create cool and crazy characters, shapes will be layered and transform into creative creatures, and more. This class is great for beginners and just FUN for any creative kid who loves to wield a paintbrush!

See the world through your lens! Capture great images and refine them through digital imaging. This fun experience will teach students how to really use their digital cameras and then how to edit those images in Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn the different modes and settings on their cameras, learn about photographic composition, lighting, and editing in Photoshop. Campers are encouraged to use their own camera if they have one, but cameras can be provided as well. An art exhibit for family and friends will be held on the last day of camp!
Photoshop Adventures
Grades: 4-8
Unlock your creative potential and learn how to use the most popular graphics design tool used by professionals around the world. Photoshop is a blank canvas that invites you to perform artistic magic with your imagination. Perfect for both beginners and those with some experience, students will explore the foundations of this valuable program. Identify the toolbar and understand the basic uses of tools, learn how to manage “layers,” import photos, and work with image/text manipulation. Students will either complete a “fantasy” image or a personalized album cover. Campers should have the ability to access to their own Google drive or may use their thumb drive to save their work. The possibilites to create within the world of Photoshop are endless!
Printmaking
Grades: 1-3
Printmaking is a versatile medium that allows children to learn the elements and principles through experimentation and imagination. A gorgeous variety of printmaking techniques will be explored, including monotypes, screen printing on t-shirts/canvas bags, transfer prints with styrofoam, stamping with objects (puzzle pieces, fruit,leaves, bubble, flowers, etc.) and collagraphs. You will love the creative projects they’ll come home with each day!
Robotics Elementary
Grades: 3-5
Robotics continues to be a great learning opportunity for the Harborfields community, offering students a chance to learn and work with Lego EV. OMS instructor Drew Lockwood has taught Robotics for four years for HACEF and the Science Research Club. He has seen firsthand how much children love to work with Robotic challenges. Skill development, planning, organization as well as creative expression are the goals for this important life-enriching camp. The unique challenges of robotics teach about sensors, navigation, remote control, programming and teamwork.

Scientists at Work

This exciting, fun-filled program will encourage young campers to delve further into the fantastic and amazing world of science. Students will become “scientists” and learn to apply scientific concepts to hands-on experiments that venture beyond the typical classroom setting. The program varies each day engaging students in a new and wonderful experience each class.
Sew it Yourself
Grades: K-5
Taught by Keri Puglisi of EmmaLoops Creative Studio in Huntington, this class will explore hand sewing at each child’s level, whether they are new to sewing or have been sewing for years! Maybe they love emojis, donuts, animals, sports! We can take their interests, mix in some creativity and use felt and other fabrics to complete stuffed, sewn creations of their own designs! Students can also choose to create a drawstring bag to contain their new creations! With each project, students will experiment with cutting, pinning, and hand sewing skills as well as explore different embellishments like buttons and beads and how to best add them to their work. No prior sewing experience needed. If they have taken sewing camp prior, they can make all new projects in this camp! The possibilities are endless!
Sketchbooking
Grades: 4-8
Learn how to develop a unique, intuitive artistic style with sketchbooking. This style of art helps you explore what you love and express it…. beautifully! Create sketchbook pages by using different techniques in making backgrounds for the pages with the use of bubbles, salt and watercolor wash, and stencils. Sketchbook prompts might include drawing your dreams, under the sea, “all about me,” drawings from observation, still lifes, and abstract exploration. There will be art history-inspired sketches and sketches of details of the face in portrait-making. Campers may use markers, watercolors, pens, sharpies, pencils, colored pencils, and watercolor crayons to create their highly-individualized work. Their cumulative work will be compiled to complete their sketchbook. They will also have the opportunity to create a sketchbook with blank pages for future use.
Spanish Tour
Grades: 1-4
Visit the exotic and culturally rich countries of Spain, Mexico, Perù and Argentina. Decorate a suitacase, create a personalized passport, and away you’ll go! Your child will love learning words and easy phrases of this beautiful language while exploring the gorgeous art, music, children’s books, and food of these nations. On the last day of camp, there will be un pequeño show for parents… a song sung entirely in Spanish and an exhibit of the brightly-colored items made during the week including homemade maracas, castanets, a lacy papel picado banner, and more!
Spinning Art
Grades: K-2
Putting a new “spin” on things, this highly-original camp lets kids create and paint large foam art pieces that get attached to a small motor that makes them SPIN! It’s an awesome moving room decoration they make themselves! There will be two combinations to choose from: the CUPCAKE, ICE CREAM CONE, and CANDY combo or the ROCKETSHIP, MOON and STARS combination! Kids choose ahead of time so that all pieces are pre-hand cut and ready to go. Then the kids will paint, decorate and embellish this cool artwork. Children go home with their large foam art pieces and attached motor to enjoy in their own rooms.
Summer Story Art
Grades: 1-3
Students will participate in amazing activities–based on popular stories and books with a summer theme! Famous and beloved illustrators will be explored, while children create designs based on popular techniques. Art projects will include story themes using collage, sculpture, drawings, painting, play dough, masks, murals, mobiles, puppets, 3D art, recycle art, dramatizations, and cooking.
Summertime Science
Grades: 4-8
Summer is a great time to spark curiosity and uncover the wonder of science, from water, sand, and solar experiments to observations in nature. In this camp, OMS Science teacher Ms. Lovett will take students on an encompassing and whirlwind tour of fun experiments, activities, and observations: Create ice cream in a bag through chemical reactions, design a solar powered car, construct a sun dial, make Kool-Aid rock candy, make a battery out of a lemon and more.
Super Sleuths
Grades: 4-6
Paging young Sherlock Holmeses! This “mysterious” camp will be right up your alley! Campers will learn to listen for and observe clues to complete various mysteries, analyze fingerprints, and even make finger print art. They will crack secret codes and make a Morse code bracelet. The week will culminate with a mystery party where campers have to solve “The Case of the Missing Jewels.” They will receive clues and tasks to accomplish in order to get a clue letter. When the letters are unscrambled, the location of the missing jewels will be revealed. All campers will go home with a “Super Sleuth Kit” including disguise glasses, invisible ink pens, magnifying lenses, and more.
The Art of Cartooning
Grades: 3 and up
This brand new HACEF camp is bound to be a lot of laughs! Campers will learn how to develop and create unique, memorable cartoon characters. They will discover how to convey emotions in drawn faces and in character movement, and how to construct funny and interesting physical features—eyes, nose, and mouth. Campers will learn the strategies of cartooning and how that even in a small comic strip, there is a beginning, a middle, and an end. How can they tell a joke in a quick and clever way that the reader will understand and enjoy? By the end of camp, each child will create their own comic strip they can share and continue to develop.
Theatrical Arts
Grades: 4-8
Experience the magic of theater through auditioning, casting, and performing an abridged version of a musical. Students will receive their own scripts, roles and learn how to improve their acting, singing and performing skills while preparing a culminating performance of a full musical! In between rehearsals for our performance, students will play a variety of theater games designed to improve improvisational skills and foster friendships between campers. Performers of all levels are welcome in this camp! There will be opportunities for beginners to the most advanced performers!
Time for Slime
Grades: 3-5
Kids just love that squishy, stretchy, bouncy slime…the colors, the textures, and the jiggly movement! In this camp, kids will experiment with different kinds of slime: traditional slime, tinted slime, glow-in-the-dark slime, puffy slime, “unicorn” slime, textured slime (with beads) and much more! The slimes will be taken home each day in their own individual containers. Kids will enjoy both the sensory, tacile experience of handling the slime and the cool things it can teach us about polymers and science. Campers will also make an emoji-themed craft each day as well! * Slime can be made without Borax if parents would prefer.
What’s Your Story
Grades: 4-7
Calling all storytellers… a fantastic new camp to HACEF! Using their imagination, children will create and build characters, setting, plot, conflict and resolution to produce their very own story. Once their characters come to life, they’ll learn how to illustrate key elements of their plot! After illustrations are completed, they will begin plans to turn their story into a blockbuster movie production! Work up a storyboard for a scene, brainstorm the advertising, and even create an original movie poster. Perfect for film buffs and storytellers alike!
Woodcrafting – Elementary

Woodcrafting offers children a chance to learn and work with wood to gain a valuable skill and make exciting projects. Wonderful, handcrafted projects including a birdfeeder, sundial, vase and much more await! Skill development, planning, organization as well as creative expression are the goals in this important, life-enriching camp.
Woodcrafting – Secondary

Even more hands-on work with wood! Woodcrafting offers children a chance to learn and work with wood to gain a valuable skill and make exciting wooden pieces.
