2021 HACEF Summer Camp Program

If you qualified for a pre-registration opportunity from donating a portion of your fees from last year, please note that HACEF plans to defer this opportunity to 2022, due to the limited program we are offering this year. We apologize for any inconvenience. HACEF is making another HACO donation to aid local families in need during this challenging time.

Week 1 – June 28 to July 1

Computer Aided Design with 3D Printing – FULL

Imagine it. Design it. Create it! Campers will enter the amazing world of Makers. They will design a clubhouse and create a virtual fly through using SketchUp. With the use of TinkerCad they will learn to design and bring useful objects to life with the use of the 3D printer. Phone holders, keychains or jewelry containers are awesome project possibilities.


Introduction to Video Production – FULL

Constantly searching for the best video apps? Gain useful skills to create impactful small digital video productions! Campers will learn basic aspects of video camera, storing digital video, and shooting video. They will learn video editing techniques through the use of video editing software. They will also have the opportunity to produce several different productions including: autobiographies, commercials, interviews, newscasts, family productions and more. All productions will be saved for take-home use.


Painting Al Fresco
Instructor: Jeanie Ritter

Having trouble choosing between an indoor summer activity and an outdoor one? Now you don’t have to! Make art while enjoying the beautiful summer outdoors with Painting Al Fresco camp! This camp includes four fun days of exploring various sketching and painting techniques. Students will have sketchbook exercises and learn tips and styles for painting gorgeous landscapes, gardens, perhaps even the beach! Follow our professional art instructor to a new creative place each day (both on campus and off) to learn and make friends who like art as much as you do.


Photography
Instructor: Richard Ritter
Grades: 6-8

See the world through your lens! Capture great images and refine them through digital imaging. This fun experience will teach students how to really use their digital cameras and then how to edit those images in Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn the different modes and settings on their cameras, learn about photographic composition, lighting, and editing in Photoshop. Campers are encouraged to use their own camera if they have one, but cameras can be provided as well.


STEM Invention – FULL

Summer is the perfect time to play and experiment! Let your little engineers loose to research, explore and learn all about science. Campers will be squealing with delight when things get fizzing, popping, erupting and banging from amazing chemical reactions. Projects include DIY Unpoppable Bubbles, Balloon Hovercraft, Straw Rockets, Doodle Bot 360 and much more!

Week 2 – July 5 to July 8

Each Day a New Adventure – FULL

Can’t decide what kind of camp to attend? Why not try a sampling of everything? Get ready for an exciting new adventure each day you come to camp… Innovative challenges, scavenger hunts, games, crafts and much more await! Solve a mystery, enjoy a pajama party with karaoke, travel around the world, and even represent a country for challenges at the Olympics in Japan


Story Books Come Alive

Small campers will be whisked into the magical world of favorite storybooks, as they experience these books using all their senses! Maybe one day you will give a pig a pancake and the next day help Pete sing a song when he loses a groovy button! What would happen if we DO let the pigeon drive the bus? Joyful and sensory art projects including drawing, painting, and clay will help bring these whimsical characters, even creatures such as dragons and unicorns, to life. Children will be encouraged to bring in their favorite books to share with the class and see what fun can be “drawn” out of the story to make it even more wonderful


Time for Slime – FULL

Kids just love that squishy, stretchy, bouncy slime…the colors, the textures, and the jiggly movement! In this camp, kids will experiment with different kinds of slime: traditional slime, tinted slime, glow-in-the-dark slime, puffy slime, “unicorn” slime, textured slime (with beads) and much more! The slimes will be taken home each day in their own individual containers. Kids will enjoy both the sensory, tactile experience of handling the slime and the cool things it can teach us about polymers and science. Campers will also make an emoji-themed craft each day as well! * Slime can be made without Borax if parents would prefer.


Worlds of Pure Imagination

Join Librarian Karin Fey on an unforgettable journey to timeless fantasy worlds, where whimsical and delightful places from books come to vivid life! Each day will have a new wonder-filled theme—with fantastical crafts, activities, and games that reflect the world we are visiting! Let’s have a Mad-hatters “tea party” in Wonderland, build STEM creations with Yellow Bricks in Oz, make eye-popping candy crafts inside Willy Wonka’s Candy Factory, and create eerie spells and potions inside Hogwarts on Harry Potter day!

 

Week 3 – July 12 to July 15

Beachy Keen – FULL

Who doesn’t love a fun day at the beach? Using imagination and ingenuity, Mrs. Reitz will take campers on a delightful excursion to the seaside! Kids will love the creativity and exploration of beach-type activities: Clamming for marbles, catch & Reel, float or sink water table, light-up hanging jellyfish, make your own magnetic bottle, cap fishing games, shell art, and make your own hooded beach towel.

Mini Picassos – FULL

Little artists will have the opportunity  to explore the Old Masters such as Picasso, Matisse, and Van Gogh to find inspiration for their own individual projects! We will be drawing, painting and sculpting to create unique versions of these artworks from the past. With an emphasis on bright colors, the children will have fun exploring how to express themselves through art.


World Travelers – FULL
Instructor: Audrey Krause

Come with Mrs. Krause on the adventure of a lifetime to Hong Kong, Australia, Hawaii and Paris! On the first day in camp, children will decorate their own personalized passport, have it “stamped,” and be able to illustrate their favorite moments as they make their way around the globe. Campers will discover the richness of other cultures through activities, songs and art. They will also get the chance to learn the popular games children their age play in that land and also create unique and colorful crafts to enhance their understanding of these beautiful countries.

Week 4 – July 19 to July 22

The Magic of Sketchnotes

Something magical happens when you take notes with pictures and words together. It’s time to update your old way of taking notes! Express your ideas using live art, graphic recording, and illustration. Sketchnotes combines graphics with the traditional methods of handwriting, drawing shapes and other visual elements to create your own one-of-a kind notes. Enjoy fun activities and bring your notebooks to life!


Pioneer Days

Take a trip back in time and discover what life was like in the 1800’s for families traveling to new lands. This slice of American history will be joyfully explored through vintage crafts and games:  learn how to churn butter, write with quill pens, make a yarn doll, play cat’s cradle and explore many other activities that are still exciting and fun today!  Come and have some good old-fashioned fun and learn a little bit about this historical period at the same time.


Summer Movie Madness – FULL

The creative Mrs. Armstrong is back! This brand-new camp will have campers “reeling.” Participate in STEM and arts and crafts activities related to popular children’s movies.  Activities will be related to Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Wreck It Ralph, and Space Jam.  Some activities include building roller coasters to go with Wreck it Ralph, Basketball catapults with Space Jam, create your own Forky to go with Toy Story, and design your own Monster art project.


Under the Sea – FULL

The perfect camp for beach and ocean lovers: inspiration for our art from the beautiful sea, teeming with diverse and beautiful creatures, including real animals and those that are magical and mystical! Paint gorgeous watercolor aquatic scenes with sharks, mermaids, fish, and more. Add details and embellishments that will make these pieces of artwork “pop” with 3-D effect. Create treasure chests that store precious items within. Paint beach scenes with real sand and other beachy materials including seashells, sand dollars, and miniature starfish.

Week 5 – July 26 to July 29

Digital Drawing
Instructor: Carlos Taveras

Learn to transform real life objects into digital art using Google Drawing. From brainstorming concepts to sketching and drawing out ideas, campers will develop the skills and confidence to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.


Kindergarten Here I Come Session 3 – FULL

The enthusiastic and creative Diane Young is back and ready to introduce your little ones to new friends as they enter Kindergarten in the fall! This camp is a hit each summer with children and parents alike. Your child will enjoy a unique and soothing opportunity for your child to meet other Harborfields children entering kindergarten in a relaxed, gentle, and fun setting. There will be loads of hands-on projects, friendship-building activities, joyful music, and playful games to help the children enjoy themselves, their environment, and each other!


Making Summer Memories – FULL

Turn off the phones and tune into Summer! This camp is a return to beloved and traditional games and activities to delight a child’s imagination. Campers will participate in sand art and tie-dying, decorate bottles to catch fireflies, and whip up bubble paint to make wild designs. Create a sign for a lemonade stand… and then sell it together as a group to raise money for charity. Kids will learn strategy and communication skills while playing favorite board games such as Scrabble, Battleship, and Monopoly. The children will play old-fashioned outdoor games like kickball, hopscotch, and Red Light Green Light…with an awesome prize at the end!


Mini Mixed Media – FULL

Explore the diverse and exciting experience of using mixed materials in art! This popular art form is gaining traction as individuals enjoy the highly-unique creations that can be developed as a result of incorporating different items together. Each day we will study a different element of art (color, shape, line, and texture) and create collage-like paintings, posters and even picture frames. These projects will not be your classic drawing and painting lessons but will instead incorporate fun and everyday sensory materials such as gems, furry paper, yarn, glitter, newspaper, paint, popsicle sticks, model magic, googly eyes and more!


Sew it Yourself! – FULL
Instructor: Keri Puglisi

This camp will be SEW much fun! Taught by Keri Puglisi, owner of Loops by Keri and of EmmaLoops Creative Studio, this class will explore hand sewing at each childΓÇÖs level, whether they are new to sewing or have been sewing for years. Students will create a unique and lovable stuffed animal/creature of their very own design. With each project, students will experiment with cutting, pinning, and hand sewing as well as explore different embellishments like buttons and beads and how to best add to their work. No prior sewing experience needed.

Week 6 – August 2 to August 5

Jedi Training Academy – FULL
Instructor: Sonia Armstrong

This is the camp (and the droids) you’ve been looking for… Welcome to Jedi Master Armstrong’s training academy for Jedi hopefuls. Jedi applicants will construct their own lightsabers and will then choreograph a battle with another Jedi opponent by learning martial arts training moves. Perhaps a surprise visit from Darth Vader will jolt these Jedis into action! Applicants will need to use their skills to rescue Han Solo from the carbonite. Use Jedi mind tricks and meditation to outwit the Dark Side then build your own X-Wing fighter vehicle to join the rebellion and help restore peace to the galaxy! This Star Wars camp will be a mix of fun STEM activities, arts and crafts, and outside fun! May the force be with you!


Kindergarten Here I Come – FULL

Mystery STEAM Camp – FULL

Shhh…. It’s a secret. But each day of this camp will come as a complete surprise… Each morning, children will be handed a big bag of supplies as well as their own set of “tools.” Challenges, activities, and prizes will be issued as campers are given a certain “mission” and asked to create something with what they have—using their own ingenuity and sense of invention.  STEAM activities (and imaginations) will run wild as campers use critical thinking and innovation to solve fun problems and puzzles—and build and craft awesome creations.


Robotics
Instructor: Jim Temps

Robotics is a cutting-edge learning opportunity for our Harborfields children, presenting students with the chance to learn and enjoy programming, mechanical design, and electrical construction. Being proficient in robotic challenges offers much in the way of technological skill development, planning, executive organization, and teamwork as well as offering unique chances for creative expression. These life-changing skills will help give students a leg up in technology—all while having a great time! 


Time for Slime

Week 7 – August 9 to August 12

Disney Show Choir – FULL

Be our guest as we enjoy singing and dancing to the songs of new & old Disney classics! Together with TJL music choir director Laura Mara, campers will work on musical interpretation, posture, and stage presence, as well as add percussion and visual effects to enhance musical selections. A final video performance will be recorded at the end of camp. No dance or chorus experience is required to attend this camp. All activities will be spaced 12-feet apart.


Exploring 2D & 3D Art
Instructor: Elizabeth Devaney

Both fun and inspiring, 2D & 3D art opens up a world of exciting possibilities! Children will explore a variety of visual arts mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and more. Age-appropriate projects are geared to expand students’ artistic horizons by improving knowledge and skills. The session culminates with an art exhibition featuring artworks created during camp for family and friends to enjoy.

Pokemon Fun – FULL

We choose YOU for this lovable and engaging camp that uses the fun and spirit of this time-honored show to teach valuable lessons in team-building and science. From Pokémon battles to building catapults and Pikachu crafts, kids will love the clever ways they can use their minds to defeat the mischievous Team Rocket. Learn a bit about science classification by discussing Pokémon “types,” design your own unique Pokémon card and play a numbers game, witness the process of metamorphosis with various “evolving” Pokémon and devise your own Pokémon Go game with a giant scavenger hunt! How many words can you get out of the word “Charmander?” Make a fizzing Pokéball and see what happens when you place it in water! Are you ready for these Masterful ideas? You Gotta Catch ‘Em all!
