When selecting a grade, please choose the grade your child will be entering in the Fall of 2023.

Week 1 – June 26 to June 29

Spanish Immersion Camp – FULL

Students will be immersed in Spanish through music, literature, and games. Your child will have a wonderful time exploring a new language. Vocabulary development will focus on greetings, colors, numbers and family members. This is a great opportunity for your camper to learn a new language!


World Travelers – FULL

Come with Mrs. Krause on an adventure of a lifetime to Hong Kong, Australia, Hawaii, and Paris! Each day the children will have their personalized passports “stamped” as they make their way around the globe. Campers will discover the richness of other cultures through activities, songs, dance, and art.


Making Summer Memories – FULL

Turn off the phones and tune into Summer! This camp is a return to beloved and traditional games and old-time summer activities to delight a child’s imagination. Campers will participate in sand art, tie-dying, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and sidewalk chalk. We will create a sign for our famous lemonade stand and then sell it together as a group to raise money for a local charity.  Kids will learn strategy and communication skills while playing favorite board games such as Scrabble, Battleship, and Monopoly. The children will play old-fashioned outdoor games like kickball, hopscotch, and Red Light Green Light!


Exploring 2D & 3D Art – FULL

Both fun and inspiring, art opens up a world of exciting possibilities! Children will explore a variety of visual arts mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and more. Age-appropriate projects are geared to expand students’ artistic horizons by improving their knowledge and skills. The session culminates with an art exhibition featuring artworks created during camp for family and friends to enjoy.


Food Truck Face Off – COMPLETE!

Are you someone who loves to eat food? Do you like to try new food?
Foodie: a person with a particular interest in food!

Join this camp and design your own food truck and create a digital food truck presentation!

You can feature your favorite food and drinks. You can mix and match cuisines. Entrepreneurs will get to create their own theme, menu items, truck design, and more!


Hands On Clay – Part 1 – COMPLETE!

Have your kids unplug and play with mud! Campers will enjoy four fun-filled days exploring the numerous possibilities clay has to offer, such as hand-building and wheel throwing. In addition, these mini potters will also learn how to load and fire the kiln as well as experiment with various glaze applications.
Campers will use their imagination and new skills to form decorative and functional ceramic pieces that your family will treasure forever. The week will end with an art exhibit for family and friends to enjoy.

This camp is offered 2 times this summer! There is no prerequisite for Part 2. The projects will be different in Parts 1 and 2 so this camp is repeatable!

 


Week 2 – July 3 to July 7

Pioneer Days – FULL

Take a trip back in time with Mrs. Krause. Learn what life was like in the 1800’s for families traveling to new lands. Create crafts, make butter, write with quill pens, make your own clay marbles, play games and explore many other activities that are still exciting and fun today! Come and have some good old-fashioned fun and learn about this historical period at the same time.


Fiesta Fun in Spanish – OPEN!

¡Fiesta! Music & Dance! Games! Crafts! Fun!
Students will be exposed to the culture and arts of Spanish-speaking nations worldwide including colors, numbers, days of the week, greetings, and much more! Instruction will be in Spanish, as we learn through the integration of music, art, dance, & games. We will create masterpieces, get up and move, and listen to fun music, all while sharpening our Spanish 
language skills! ¡Olé!

“In my “Fiesta Fun” camp, we will have an activity-packed day, where students will enjoy the culture and flavor of various Spanish-speaking nations. We will begin our day speaking Spanish by greeting one another, and learning fun phrases and locations of the 22 different countries where Spanish is spoken. . We will create an artistic masterpiece in the cubist style of Pablo Picasso, design our own piñata, and even learn rhythms and movements of the flamenco Sevillanas dance, from the south of Spain. Students will be immersed in language, art, music, and history, as they are exposed to everything Spanish!”

Extraordinary Entrepreneurs – COMPLETE!

Do you want to run your own business one day and be your own boss? Join this camp to start working on your dream business. It is never too early to start working towards your dream. 

Entrepreneurs will create a product or service of their choice and present it. You will get the chance to learn more about creativity, innovation, innovation, design, and leadership.


Summer Salsa: Intro to Latin Movement – COMPLETE!
Instructor: Laura Mara

If you have ever wanted to learn how to dance Salsa or Bachata, this camp is for you! This is a beginner/introduction to Latin dance! Students will learn the basic footwork of salsa, some shine routines, and some partner work. No dance experience is necessary! Depending on how it goes, we will learn some bachata basics as well! 

Day 1: We will learn the basic step and begin learning a shine routine
Day 2: We will review the basic step and begin learning partner work
Day 3: We will review the basic step, and learn our right turn, broken left turn, and left turn, as well as review the partner work
Day 4: We will add one new step, add another measure of partner work, and put on a mini performance!

Robotics – FULL

This Robotics camp will be dedicated to learning how to code and work with EV3 robots that are used in First Lego League competitions each year!
Robotics is a cutting-edge learning opportunity for our Harborfields students, presenting them with the chance to learn and enjoy programming, mechanical design, and electrical construction. Being proficient in robotic challenges offers much in the way of technological skill development, planning, executive organization, and teamwork as well as offering unique chances for creative expression. These life-changing skills will help give students a leg up in technology—all while having a great time!


Plein Air Water Color Painting- COMPLETE!

This summer, wouldn’t you love to paint nature? Join this Plein Air painting class and learn how to sketch out your compositions and make complete watercolor paintings that capture the feeling of the locations you are painting!

From the Instructor:

Plein Air in French means outdoors and it refers to painting outside in nature from observation. We will be taking 2 field trips (weather permitting): one to Northport Harbor Village and one to Heckscher Park in Huntington Village. Come and paint with me!
(Parents are responsible for the transportation)

For my camp the first day students will meet at Harborfields High School. I will teach them about Plein air painting and watercolor techniques. We will go outside around Harborfields High School and the students will complete their first Plein air painting. On the second day, we will have our first of 2 field trips. We will meet at Heckscher Park where students will bring their watercolor supplies in a backpack and create a watercolor scene from observation of the park. On the third day, we will go to Northport Village and students will use watercolors to capture the landscapes. On the last day, we will have an art exhibition, families are invited to come into the building at 11:15 am. 

Materials:

This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to meet other Harborfields children who are entering kindergarten in a relaxed, fun setting!
Your child will experience a shorter version of Kindergarten! Activities will include fun math, language, stories, science, & art activities! There will be hands-on projects, friendship-building activities, joyful music, and playful games to help the children enjoy themselves, their environment, and each other!

We will tour the school and visit all of the special classrooms and the playground. The children will get to make friends with other Harborfields children entering Kindergarten in the Fall.

*Please note that this Kindergarten camp is offered three times this summer and is repeatable; there will be different projects each session!


Dance Camp – FULL
Instructor: Caitlyn Rapelje

Come dance with us! Campers will learn technique and skills in different styles of dance as well as work on improvisation and choreography. It will be a fun, upbeat, energy-filled experience that can foster their self-esteem, confidence, creativity, and a love for the art of dance!
Dance styles will be Ballet and Hip Hop!


Lego Camp- FULL
Instructor: Dennis Harmon

Do you love Lego? If so, this camp program is for you. Campers will have an opportunity to build from many different popular Lego Themes including City, Friends, Star Wars, Ninjago, Harry Potter, Minecraft, and more! In addition to assembling Lego official sets, campers will compete and face different challenges to build the coolest Lego sets possible or see who can build a set the fastest or strongest creations to earn the golden brick! If you love Lego, you’re sure to have a blast!


Zentangle: The Art of Doodling- COMPLETE!
Instructor: Stephanie Hansen

Like to doodle in class? Put that habit to good use with a camp that takes
doodling to the next level! Students will learn how to create beautiful works of art using Zentangles, or structured repetitive patterns, while incorporating a variety of mixed media such as watercolor paint, markers, and more! Creating Zentangles is a fun and exciting way to relax, expand your imagination, and have fun. Campers will learn how to create different patterns and complete projects ranging from landscapes to crazy hair self-portraits to creating their own coloring book page.


Show Me The Money – COMPLETE!

Do you want to know the secrets of money management? Do you want to learn when to spend your money and when to save it? Would you like to be rich in the future?

Join this camp to learn about wants vs. needs, checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, and income and expenses.

You are never too young to learn how to handle money!


Introduction to Fashion Design- COMPLETE!
Instructor: Rosemarie Elder
Grades: 5-8

Students will be introduced to the history of fashion which will be where they will find their inspiration and will influence their own contemporary fashion designs. They will learn to apply clothing to the fashion figure (croquis) and how to render fabrics, textures, and styles of details on clothing. They will also become skillful in various color pencil techniques. The final project will be a unique Seasonal Collection.


Wild About Beads – Part 1- COMPLETE!
Instructor: Kalliope Viegas

To bead or not to bead? That’s a good question! Learn to bead and watch the creativity soar! Campers will learn to design and make beaded creations such as key chains, bookmarks, bracelets, and necklaces in this new and exciting class. Campers will learn a variety of beading techniques including stringing, knotting, wire wrapping, and much more! These mini-beaders will also learn the basics of polymer clay to create beautiful beads of their own to add to their creations.

This camp is offered 2 times this summer! There is no prerequisite for Part 2. The projects will be different in Parts 1 and 2 so this camp is repeatable!

Andiamo in Italia!- FULL

Pokemon Fun- FULL

We choose YOU for this lovable and engaging camp that uses the fun and spirit of this time-honored show to teach valuable lessons in team-building and science. From Pokémon battles to building catapults and Pikachu crafts, kids will love the clever ways they can use their minds to defeat the mischievous Team Rocket. Learn a bit about science classification by discussing Pokémon “types,” design your own unique Pokémon card, play a numbers game, and witness the process of metamorphosis with various “evolving” Pokémon! How many words can you get out of the word “Charmander?” Make a fizzing Pokéball and see what happens when you place it in water! Are you ready for these Masterful ideas? You Gotta Catch ‘Em all!


Dance Camp – COMPLETE!

Famous Landmarks Around the World – COMPLETE!

Discover some of the world’s most iconic landmarks! Campers will learn about the rich heritage of The Chrysler Building in New York City, the Taj Mahal in India, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and St. Basil Cathedral in Russia. These world-famous structures attract millions of visitors each year because of their location and their unique architectural elements. Here is a chance for Campers to explore these incredible structures. 

This is a hands-on camp involving cutting, painting, gluing, coloring, etc. Each camper will “build” a similar landmark using a variety of materials and creativity to capture the essence of the landmark in their own unique way.

From the Instructor:

“Enjoy your staycation by “visiting” some of the world’s most famous landmarks – the Chrysler Building, the Eiffel Tower, St. Basil Cathedral, and the Taj Mahal. Join us as we explore these landmarks in the context of their locations – NYC, France, Russia, and India! 

Campers will initially connect to these landmarks through architectural videos, historical information, literature and first-hand experiences of the instructor. Campers can then begin to connect their historical past with their present-day importance and begin to understand why these famous landmarks are top destination sites for tourists today. Using that collective knowledge, campers will then create their own version of the landmark.  

As time permits, further exploration of these landmarks will be encouraged through cooperative games such as “How High is Too High?” skyscraper game, “Capture the Flag – US vs. France,” “Russian Nesting” games, and “Trek Across India” games. 

Our goal is to kickstart a passion for learning about historical places around the world. So join us as we uncover the stories that these historical places hold within their structures!”

Little Sprouts Gardening Camp- FULL

Budding gardeners will take a hands-on learning approach to planting & growing their own vegetable garden. Children will be encouraged to try out their green thumb during this interactive STEM gardening camp. Your “Little Sprout” will also learn about the basic needs and life cycle of plants, explore the world around them during a nature scavenger hunt, create chlorophyll paintings & have a plantastic week!


Summer Movie Madness- COMPLETE!
Instructor: Sonia Armstrong
Grades: 1-3

This camp will focus on one movie for each day of the camp. Campers will participate in STEAM activities!
Jurassic Park: campers will create fossils and participate in a dino dung dig.
Monsters Inc: campers will create their own monster using art supplies and create mood pictures using watercolors that highlight a particular scene from the movie.
Wreck it Ralph: campers will create their own sugar rush car and create a roller coaster using recyclable materials.
Toy Story: campers will create their own Forky friend and design their own graphic strip with Forky and the other Toy Story friends as the main characters using various art materials


Disney Show Choir- COMPLETE!
Instructor: Laura Mara

Love to sing and dance? This camp is for you! Together we will enjoy singing and dancing to an exciting Disney medley, as well as add percussion and visual effects to enhance our musical selections. Come ready to move, have fun and make music! No dance or chorus experience is required to attend this camp.

We will split our time between learning the music and choreography. On Day 2-3 of camp, we will begin piecing together the performance and will put on a mini 5-minute performance for parents at the end of Day 4. We will be learning a 3-piece Disney Medley, adding movement scarves and rhythm sticks to enhance our performance.

Come ready to move, have fun and make music! No dance or chorus experience is required to attend this camp.

 


Textile Exploration- – FULL

Explore the world of textiles by making your own fabric! During this camp, we will learn tapestry weaving, tie-dyeing, block printing, felting, knitting, and other ways of making fabric.


Week 6 – July 31 to August 3

Little Sprouts Gardening Camp- FULL

Budding gardeners will take a hands-on learning approach to planting & growing their own vegetable garden. Children will be encouraged to try out their green thumb during this interactive STEM gardening camp. Art Discovery- FULL

Young campers will expand their imagination and discover new projects and art mediums! Each day will introduce a new subject ranging from mastering the art of a self-portrait to landscape drawings and the art of doodles. Students will utilize and manipulate different materials such as watercolor, colored pencils, model magic, paint, and more!


Jedi Training Academy- FULL

Campers will enroll as Jedi trainees. They will participate in science experiments, design crafts involving their favorite Star Wars characters, make light sabers, and enjoy a culminating visit from a special guest who teaches our campers special moves to conclude their Jedi training work as they seek Jedi Mind Power control.


Sew It Yourself – FULL
Instructor: Keri Puglisi

This camp will be SEW much fun! Taught by Keri Puglisi, owner of Loops by Keri and of EmmaLoops Creative Studio, this class will explore hand sewing at each child’s level, whether they are new to sewing or have been sewing for years. Students will create a unique and lovable stuffed animal/creature of their very own design. With each project, students will experiment with cutting, pinning, and hand sewing as well as explore different embellishments like buttons and beads and how to best add to their work. No prior sewing experience needed.


Shoreline Art- OPEN!

Our class will use a variety of found objects from Long Island’s beaches (sea glass, bottles, shells, rocks) to create artworks like mosaics, light catchers, necklaces, and sculptures/collages!

From the Instructor:

“Hello everyone, and welcome to Shoreline Art! We’re going to have an exciting week creating a bunch of beach-related projects, whether we’re working directly with found materials from different beaches around Long Island (think shells, sea glass, driftwood, and more!) or making things inspired by the beach and ocean. 

To give you a little sneak peek into what we’ll be doing, let me tell you about a couple of projects we have planned. For one of our camp days, we’ll spend our time creating and decorating light-up glass bottles. The bottles are all different shapes, colors, and sizes, and were all of course found on the beach! You can use them as a desk lamp, on your nightstand, or just as something cool to decorate your room. For a different project, we’ll try our hands at making some unique jewelry using your choice of different kinds of sea glass, shells, and rocks found from places as close to Jones Beach to ones as far out as Montauk!

Week 7 – August 7 to August 10

Act Out for Fun- FULL
Instructor: Cheryl Manniello

Learn everything about live musical theater! Over four days you will do scene work including choreography, directing, blocking, staging, costuming, make-up, singing, and dancing, and end with a fun mini-performance of scenes from a Broadway musical.

All ages and abilities welcome – experienced and inexperienced!



Digital Art Camp- FULL

Young artists will be immersed into the world of Digital Art! Students will learn how to create their own logos, posters, and manipulate photos! Students will learn how to use new online digital art making programs and create digital masterpieces through the use of a Chromebook!


Fashion Design II- OPEN!
Instructor: Rosemarie Elder

The emphasis in Fashion II will be on creating an evening gown for the “Oscar Awards” with accessories and a cocktail dress for the “MTV Awards” and accessories. We will review applying clothing to the fashion figure, and color pencil skills.

No prerequisite – no need to have taken Intro to Fashion to attend this camp.
